Of America's 100 largest cities, Boston currently ranks near dead last (94th) when it comes tothe percentage of households with children. Yet cities offer great benefits for families, including proximity to
cultural institutions and parks, a choice of transportation modes and diversity of housing and neighborhood services. As we explore architecture and design in Boston during Common Boston Weekend ‘09, we ask you to join us for this forum, which features designers, planners and community leaders discussing how we can design a better city, both in hopes of retaining families who currently live here and in attracting new families through sustainable and progressive design.

Forum panelists:
  • Tom Keane, Moderator - former Boston City Councilor, columnist for the Boston Globe
  • Lou Casagrande - President of Boston Children’s Museum
  • Shauna Gillies-Smith - Founding Principal of Ground
  • Susan Silberberg-Robinson - MIT DUSP lecturer and urban design/planning consultant
  • Madeleine Steczynski - Executive Director, Zumix
  • Chris Reed - Founding Principal of Stoss landscape architecture
